How Vedic astrology can support you
Jyotish doesn't decide your life for you. Used well, it gives you a map of your tendencies and a calendar of when certain themes are likely to come up, so you can plan with more awareness.
What your kundli actually is
A kundli is a snapshot of the sky at the exact moment and place you were born. It records where the Sun, Moon and planets were against the 27 nakshatras and 12 rashis, and which rashi was rising on the eastern horizon. That rising sign, your lagna, becomes the first house, and the other eleven houses follow from it.
Vedic astrology uses the sidereal zodiac, measured against the fixed stars. NexTych uses the Lahiri ayanamsa, the standard adopted by the Government of India's calendar reform committee and used by most Indian astrologers.
The four things your chart tells you
Lagna (ascendant)
Your body, temperament and the way you approach life. It changes roughly every two hours, which is why an accurate birth time matters.
Rashi (moon sign)
Your mind and emotional nature. In India, horoscopes and transits are usually read from the moon sign.
Nakshatra
The lunar mansion your Moon occupies. It adds finer detail to your nature and sets the starting point of your dasha cycle.
Dasha
The planetary periods that unfold through your life. Each period brings its planet's themes to the foreground for years at a time.
Two kinds of timing: dashas and transits
The Vimshottari dasha system divides a 120-year cycle among nine planets. Your Moon's nakshatra decides which planet's period you were born into and how much of it was left. A Jupiter mahadasha, for example, lasts 16 years and tends to emphasise learning, mentors, children and growth; a Saturn mahadasha lasts 19 years and rewards discipline and patience.
Transits, or gochar, are where the planets are today relative to your chart. Saturn's 7½-year Sade Sati over your moon sign is the most famous example. Astrologers read the two together: a transit shows what's in the air, and your dasha shows how strongly you'll feel it.
Practical ways people use it
- Choosing good timing. Picking a muhurat for a griha pravesh, launch, wedding or signing, or simply avoiding a busy Mercury retrograde for an important contract.
- Understanding yourself. Seeing why you recharge alone, or why certain kinds of work drain you, and making peace with your own wiring.
- Relationships. Kundli matching and compatibility reading highlight where two people naturally align and where they'll need more patience.
- Career phases. Knowing that a demanding Saturn period is about building foundations, not failure, makes it easier to stay the course.
- Reflection during difficult times. A dasha change can give language to a period of upheaval and a sense that it has a beginning and an end.
What astrology can't do
No chart removes your choices. Two people with similar charts live very different lives because of upbringing, effort and circumstance. Treat any reading, including ours, as one input among many. For health, money and legal matters, always speak to a qualified professional.
Getting the most from your reading: use the time on your birth certificate or hospital record if you can. A difference of even 10 to 15 minutes can change your lagna when you were born near a sign boundary.
