Should you wear a gemstone? Read this before you buy one
A gemstone strengthens a planet; it does not fix it. Here is how a stone should be chosen from your chart, why the lagna lord's stone is not always right, and what to do instead.
Many people come to me already wearing a coral, an emerald or a blue sapphire, and when I ask why, the answer is "an astrologer told me". When I look at the chart, the stone is sometimes helping, sometimes doing nothing, and sometimes making things harder. A gemstone is a serious remedy, and it deserves a careful decision.
What a gemstone actually does
A gemstone does not fix a planet; it amplifies it. Whatever that planet does in your chart, good or difficult, becomes louder. That is why the most important question is not "which planet is weak?" but "what does this planet rule and do in my chart?"
Why the lagna lord's stone is not always right
A common shortcut is to give everyone the stone of their lagna lord. Consider a Mithuna (Gemini) lagna person whose Mercury sits in the 8th house with Saturn's aspect. Mercury rules the lagna, so the shortcut says "wear emerald". But that Mercury is already tied to the 8th house of sudden troubles; strengthening it can bring more of exactly that. The same stone could suit another Mithuna lagna person with Mercury well placed in the 10th.
How I choose a stone
- Find the friendly planets for your lagna. Lords of the 1st, 5th and 9th houses are generally supportive. Lords of the 6th, 8th and 12th usually are not, even if they are "good" planets by nature.
- See where that planet sits. A friendly planet placed in the 6th, 8th or 12th, or badly afflicted, needs care before it is strengthened.
- Check the running dasha. A stone for the dasha lord works only if that lord is friendly to your lagna.
- Make sure the stone is real. Many stones sold as remedies are treated, synthetic or plain glass. Buy only with a certificate from a recognised gem testing laboratory.
- Try it and observe. Traditionally the stone is first worn for a short trial period, and removed if things clearly worsen.
Be careful of fear and promises
If someone says "wear this or your problems will grow", or "wear this and all problems will end", step back. Both are selling methods, not astrology. A good astrologer explains why a stone suits you and never needs to frighten you into buying it.
Gentler remedies that never harm
- The planet's mantra on its day, 108 times.
- Charity of the planet's grains or colours on its day.
- Service connected to the planet: elders for Saturn, teachers for Jupiter, women of the family for Venus.
We do not sell gemstones at NexTych Astra. The Remedies section of the Complete Kundli Report lists the planets that need support in your chart and the simple remedies for each.
