What astrological remedies can and cannot do
A remedy is a humble request, not a guarantee. My view on what remedies really change, how to spot fear-based selling, and the simple practices anyone can follow.
Remedies have become a large business. For every problem there is a puja, a homam or a stone, often at a high price, and nobody measures whether it worked. I want to share how I understand remedies, so that you can use them with faith and good sense.
A remedy is a request, not a transaction
In our tradition a remedy is a humble prayer to reduce suffering that has become too heavy to carry. It works through sincerity and discipline, not through the amount paid. A simple mantra chanted daily with a clean heart is worth more than an expensive ritual done only to tick a box.
What remedies change
Remedies usually do not erase an event. They reduce its intensity, bringing it down to a level you can bear. Where a chart shows a period of illness, sincere remedies may turn a long illness into a short one. Where it shows a financial setback, they may turn a large loss into a smaller one.
The texts also distinguish karma that can be eased (nivarya) from firm karma that must be lived through (anivarya). An honest astrologer will tell you which kind you are facing, and will not promise to remove what cannot be removed.
Two selling methods to watch for
- The lure: "Do this puja with us and all your problems will be solved."
- The scare: "If you do not do this puja, things will become unbearable."
When we are in pain we look for hope, and both methods use that. If you hear either one, take a breath and ask for the reasoning from your chart.
Face the problem first
Before running to an astrologer, meet the problem in the practical way: see the doctor, talk to the person, fix the budget. Remedies support effort; they do not replace it.
Simple remedies anyone can follow
- Recite the stotra of the planet whose period you are in, or the Navagraha stotra daily.
- Worship your family deity and keep one day a week for a small fast or charity.
- Serve: feed the hungry, care for elders, respect teachers. Each planet answers to its own kind of service.
